Enter what your company pays you each month and see what is left after deductions: health insurance, pension, unemployment insurance and income tax.
Estimate based on the official 2026 tables, using the 協会けんぽ rate. If your company has its own health insurance (健康保険組合), or if your pay changes a lot from month to month, the real deduction may be a little different.
Four groups: health insurance (健康保険, plus 介護保険 from age 40 to 64), pension (厚生年金), unemployment insurance (雇用保険), and taxes. The taxes are income tax (所得税), withheld every month, and residence tax (住民税), charged on the previous year's income. Since April 2026 there is also the 子ども・子育て支援金 contribution, collected together with health insurance.
Health insurance and pension are not recalculated every month. They use a pay bracket (標準報酬月額) set from the average of April to June. The calculator uses the salary you typed as if it were that average. Companies with their own health insurance also use different rates.
Up to ¥150,000 per month, the commuting allowance is not subject to income tax, but it counts toward health insurance, pension and unemployment insurance.
No. The monthly withholding is an estimate. At the end of the year your company does the year-end adjustment (年末調整). If you have high medical bills, send money to dependents abroad, or worked only part of the year, you may get a refund by filing a tax return (還付申告).
