Certificate of Employment in English and Japanese (在職証明書)

For a visa application at an embassy, or for a bank, school or real estate agency outside Japan. You fill in the form, pay ¥1,100 and get a PDF by email with every line in English and Japanese, with space for the company signature and stamp.

The COMPANY is the one who certifies. You get a formal draft: print it, ask your company to check, sign and stamp it (印). Only after that is the document valid.

Fields with * are required. Fill them in Japanese as written in your contract or payslip. The English column is optional and appears next to it. We do not translate company names or job titles on our own.

Common questions

What is a Certificate of Employment in English for?

Embassies and consulates ask for proof of employment in English for travel or family visas. So do banks, schools and real estate agencies outside Japan. The bilingual form works for both sides: the Japanese company understands what it is signing and the person who receives it reads English.

Does the company have to sign it?

Issuing this certificate to someone who still works at the company is normal practice, and companies usually agree. Bringing the finished document makes it easier: the manager only checks and stamps it.

Can I include my salary?

This form does not include salary. When the recipient asks for income, the right document is the 源泉徴収票 or the 課税証明書, issued by your company and by city hall.
